Spondylolisthesis is actually 2 words joined together to describe one condition. Spondylo means "spine" and listhesis means "slippage". So spondylolisthesis is a forward slip of the vertabra (not a slipped disc). This usually occurs in the L5/S1 but has also been known to occur higher up in the lumbar region as well.
Spondylolisthesis occurs slightly more often in men than women and is often seen in people engaged in very physical activities such as football, gymnastics, heavy construction, etc. It would appear that it has nothing to do with gender other than the fact that males are usually more involved in the more strenuous activities.
Many people may not even know they have this condition until it shows up on an xray taken for another problem. Symptoms of spondylolisthesis may include tight hamstring muscles, pain or weakness in the thigh, low back pain increasing after exercise and in more serious cases an inability to control the bladder or bowels.
