Back Pain Conventional Treatments
|
Physical Therapy can be loosely defined as the use of specially designed exercises and equipment to help patients regain or improve their physical abilities. Physical therapists work with many types of patients, from infants born with birth defects, to adults suffering with neck or back pain or injury, to the elderly.
The ultimate goal of physical therapy is to restore maximum functional independence to the patient. To achieve this goal physical exercise, ice/heat therapy, electricity, and massage are utilized.
Physical therapists are licensed professionals who work with people after surgery, who have sustained disabilities from injury or other impairments or limitations in their overall physical function.
It's impossible to determine how long the physical therapy process will take because of all the variables involved. Age, severity of injury, commitment to therapy, physical conditioning, etc. all play a factor in how long the process should take.
Quite often the physical therapy process is used in conjunction with NSAIDs (Non-steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs) to combat the pain and/or spinal injections to eliminate the pain and reduce the inflammation to allow the therapy to be most effective.
